Why do people tend to judge others by skin colour rather than individual personality and individualism.?

I love socializing with people, and if people will judge me by my skin colour without actually making an effort to know me, then i petty such people, as they miss out on the most interesting people in the world. we are living in a global village now, skin colour has nothing to do with who u are, your religion, cultural attitude you identify with, where you are from or whatever. Racism exists in different forms, but colour seggregation is lame and unjust...we are all human beings with high intelligence and spiritual presensce...respect that and lets erradicate racism from our thoughts. prejudice makes u a weak person...judge what u can measure and you will love the life you live...peace to all colours, tribes and aliens lol!

I think people fear the unknown in general. Humans are tribal by nature and therefore tend to distrust anyone who does not belong to their particular tribe. This is instinctual and the the result of thousands of war torn years.





People who are brought up in wealthier countries distrust people who come from poorer nations and tend to keep them at arms length. All third world countries suffer from corruption and crime and that's what scares people. I don't believe racism is as black %26amp; white as it may first seem. I think wealth has more to do with it than colour...





It can get very depressing thinking about it, but the world can't change overnight. Do your best to make a good impression on the people you meet and change their beliefs. May be in turn they will have the same impact on others they meet.

Reply:I wish there was a bar-code on people's forehead telling you that they were good people or just another azzhole,unfortunately that isn't the case,so yes people generalize,and that means you are judged by your peers,it's just the way it is.In a way it's a self-defense mechanism !

When a racist person looks at, say, a black man committing a crime they will naturally think that it is due to the fact that he is black that the man is a criminal. The racist does not think beyond this most easy of answers. What should be considered is the fact that, in history, black people have been oppressed. It does not take a brainwizard to work out that anyone who suffers oppression and subsequent poverty is far more likely to commit crimes - in order to satisfy frustrations. This is called 'strain theory'. The fact that the person is black is not the cause, but simply relates to historical prejudices.


So, that's one cause. Another is blind, stupid and hateful ignorance. To which, I'm afraid, there is no explanation.

It would be nice...and would HELP the situation...if some of the people who are most often judged by skin color did not insist that in some situations, skin color MUST be taken into account. (As in affirmative action in college admissions, hiring, and promotions, for example.)


It's hard for many of us to understand why so many people claim that everything should be completely color-blind....EXCEPT when it gives them an advantage. Seems a little hypocritical.
Reply:i like what you wrote, people judge others like that because they are probably insecure with themselves, racist, ignorant, they stereotype and small minded. I dont let these types of people get in the way of me meeting people all over the world, I love to meet people all over the world!

Reply:I agree with you. I'm mostly white (also part American Indian - two tribes). But, I also have cousins who are black. I have friends who are Muslim and I'm Jewish/Christian. The only time I get angry at those who are different from me, is when they use who and what they are as an excuse to be a horses rear end, sit on their butts and not work, think the world owes them something because of what their ancestors went through (BTW, it was the blacks who brought the blacks to this country, NOT the whites). Just a history lesson there for those who didn't know. I could go on and on, but I won't.

Reply:i think you said it all there.... the problem is the older generations can still be prejudiced and they are teaching this to their children, and in turn they might become racist too... this will go on for a long time... alot of people also associate different faiths with global problams too i.e. terrorism with muslims (even if that isnt the case)... it will take a long time for the world to grow out of racism.... its a shame really
Reply:Racists have succeeded in spreading their hatred and making people judgemental.I totally agree with you that people are missing out on so much because they decide to pass judgement based on the colour of someone's skin.Diversity is great and we all have qualities to share if only others were prepared to stop being so insular.
