How can I prevent dry skin?

I tend to have very dry skin, especially after showering. I am most concerned about this with respect to my face. After I shave, I can put lotion on my face and that usually helps for a while, although after a few hours the area around my chin starts to dry up and peel (I know, this is a bit gross). Anyway, I would like to grow a beard, but I have trouble doing so because any time I take a shower my face gets extremely dry and starts flaking, almost like "beard dandruff". I can't put lotion on it, because there is a beard in the way, and even if I use a dandruff shampoo on the beard, it does nothing. Any ideas?

How can I prevent dry skin?
hmm... do you often showering under HOT water? if you do.. stop doing so as hot water deprives the skin from moisture. try changing to lukewarm or cool showers.

or, maybe you could use bath soap that is sensitive skin friendly..

as for your face problem, you could splash cold water on your face after being washed with hot water.. PAT dry with a soft cloth and rub some sunblock on.. bizarre i know.. but it helps my dry skin.. hmm.. or try using some vitamin E cream.. it helps to rejuvenate the skin...
Reply:dry skin shows that you are mostly dehydrated. You may not be thirsty but dehydration comes first before thirst. Try to drink a lot of water everyday...applying lotion just after shower also helps.
Reply:try s mix of rose water n glycerin
Reply:Try goats milk soap. My husband uses it and it works great.
Reply:wash with green tea face soap body shop,uk
Reply:I get really dry skin too!!! Do you wash your face? If so, what do you use? Don't use soap, it will only make your skin worse. Have you ever tried exfoliating? You should buy a gentle exfoliate and exfoliate every other day. If that's too irritating, do it a couple times a week. This will help slough off dead skin cells. As for products to use, try these:

Higher end products:

-Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion for face (my #1!!!). You can usually return higher end products if they don't work or make you break out, just ask the department store first.

-Serious Skin Care Olive Oil line (Check out www.seriousskincare.com) They offer great, quality products for face and body.

Drug Store Products:

-Glaxal base (a little thick but it works and you can use it all over- face and body)

-Aveno (my excema disappeared!)

If you still have the problem, you should really see your doctor as you might have a skin condition. Good luck!
Reply:Try using a moisturing body wash, %26amp; a GOOD moisturing body lotion. I'd wait until I "fixed" the dry skin problem on your face before I tried to grow a beard. Slather on the body lotion whenever you see your skin becoming dry, try in for a couple of weeks, if this dosen't work, go see a dermatologist!
Reply:I'm watching this question, I have the exact same problem and have no clue what to do - but i've noticed soap drys your face out more - so don't use soap on your face EVERYTIME you go to the bathroom - just try washing with plain water sometime.
Reply:that maens your body needs oil, inside and outside both. first do oil massage your body and take showers withluke worm water. second eat a bit of oil in your food like butter, olive oil, fish oil capsules, healthy food which has some fat in it. donot take boiled foods i mean without fat.
Reply:While you're taking a shower, put hair conditioner on your skin. it helps to moisturize dry skin and is cheaper than lotion if you get the cheap stuff. it works the same as the expensive stuff. White Rain brand isn't filmy and it's cheap. I know this because i use it when i shave my legs. it might also make your beard softer.
Reply:hmm - not sure about the beard part, but i'm a huge fan of mary kay skin care (i know it sounds girly) but i swear by it. it helps with everything from oily skin to severly dry skin %26amp; everything in between. %26amp; the nice thing is that the cusultant will help you one on one %26amp; after you try something she will give u a free check up to see if its helping or not %26amp; if adjustments need to be made. good luck
Reply:try using a Virgin coconut oil. Just rub it on your skin b4 sleeping. It helps to moisturize your skin.
Reply:%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;I can...I was brought up Catholic and now I'm a proud and true atheist. They always have an answer to questions that disprove their faith, because their religion is based in Faith, not reality. It's based on believing things because they are just taken as axiomatic, not proven. People, if you haven't noticed, enjoy ignorance.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

This was written by someone who obviously never took the time to really look into what the Church really believes, and why it believes it.

It also seems to have been written by someone who just could not reconcile the Church's teachings with his/her desires and lifestyles -- thus, he/she needed a "way out" from his/her obligations as a Catholic, and found that "way out" by convincing him/herself that the Church was a sham.

Sorry to have to give you this response under another question -- but you don't have a mode of PM set up, and I just could not let your baseless assertions go unanswered.
