I have a peculiar skin problem... help!?

I happen to have very dry skin on my face... but I still tend to break out...and most acne treatments make my face even dryer and have a tendency to redden my face as well...

Is there anyone in the same boat as me.. or that has advice?

thanks!!

I have a peculiar skin problem... help!?
Your skin is reacting to the chemicals found in most all commercial products. This is pretty common.

Forget the derm, they'll most likely just give you another chemical filled product or pill, which may work for awhile, but then you'll most likely end up back where you started if not in worse shape.

I use only natural ingredients like powdered milk for a facial cleanser and Extra Virgin Olive Oil for a moisturizer. I swear my skin has never been happier! Bonus: it's soooo much better priced!

Here's a great site for skin care ideas and advice that's simple, homemade and much better for you!

Reply:Go to the doctors and find out what level extremity your acne is if you haven't already done so. What facial cleansing regime do you use and how severe is your acne?
Reply:Have you spoken to a dermatologist? This sounds like a problem for a professional to deal with. Perhaps your problem is over-drying? If you don't keep your skin properly hydrated it compensates for the dryness by over-producing oil. This can cause blemishes, which often makes people run out to get an acne cleanser which only dries them out further, exacerbating the problem. Have you been checked for allergies? Sometimes acne on dry skin is caused by an allergy. Perhaps you should step back from using the acne products and try using a good, gentile cleanser for sensitive skin and a good oil free face cream. This might help balance out your skin and if you are having an allergy might help tame it. Cetaphil is a great, gentile moisturizer good for people with sensitive skin and allergies.

If I were you I would speak to a dermatologist about the problems you are having with your skin. They can help you to determine the root of the problem and then design a skincare routine that will address you specific needs. Sometimes clinical formulations are needed to address the current outbreak of acne and then you can work on preventing it with the right course of products.

Good luck, these things can be very frustrating!
Reply:Go to the clinique counter and the can help. I use there antibacterial bar of soap(it doesn't dry out my skin) Then i use there super exfoliate(takes away all my dead skin cells)Then i use there moisturising gel. It isn't a lotion so it wont clog you up but it really helps your dry skin. I do this 2 times a day and sometimes sneak in a couple more applications of just the gel. And do not use the astringent, your face is already dry.Good luck.
Reply:Hi there,

Don't worry! You're not alone! I have combination skin too so it's dry as well as oily and I tend to break out too. Invest in an oil free moisturizer so it moisturizes your skin but doesn't leave it feeling greasy. Nivea Visage do a great light oil free moisturizing fluid. I also use Vitamin E at night as it's great for all skin types. Drink lots of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated on the inside.

Acne treatments are often too harsh (as you've discovered) as they strip the skin of natural oils and leave them dryer than before. Olay also so an anti-blemish moisturizer which is great for blemishes as well as being a very good moisturizer.

For your breakouts, try an 'on-the-spot' treatment. Most brands do one. It's like a pen that you just 'dab' on the spot so you're only treating the affected area and not the whole face.

Hope this helps x
Reply:I'm hoping for a really good answer to this question, as I have the same problem. I do know that you'll probably want to find a different cleanser, as foaming cleansers are more drying. A good cream cleanser/cleansing oil might help. Maybe if you can take care of the dry part, your skin will stop over-compensating with oil, which causes the breakouts. At night, I follow my cleanser with a serum, a non SPF day cream, AND a night cream. Also, products designed for aging skin usually pack more of a moisture wallop.

A good scrub might help too, to get rid of both the impurities and any dead skin.
Reply:A new moisturizing mask i came up with myself is

Reply:YES!! I had the same problem!! I started to use Hylunia Skin Care which hydrates with hyaluronic acid (a natural humectant) and it cleared my skin right up! I agree, it is peculiar and when I use to see the derm. she just saw acne and presribed acne medicine and skin care which is for oily/acne skin types and made my skin and acne so much worse!! It's been 4 years and I use only HYLUNIA and my skin is perfect! Clear and hydrated:)

Good luck, not many people know about this crazy condition:)
