Why does my skin look better late at night or first thing in the morning?

Especially when I wake up my skin looks smooth, even-toned, and flawless. Then as soon as I wash it, it starts looking shiny again. During the day, my skin tends to be oily and quite shiny in the T-zone.

I've noticed the same thing if I stay out all night. After 18-20 hours without washing, my skin looks even better than it did right after I washed it!

This "flawless" skin happens only late at night or early in the morning. Where does the oil go?

Why does my skin look better late at night or first thing in the morning?
You need to improve your circulation. When you sleep there is better circulation because you are lying down. Similarly if you are active, the oil gets absorbed back into your skin when your circulation is at its best.
Reply:I would say that whatever you are washing your face with is making your skin dry out and over produce natural oils. That is why your skin looks better hours after you wash your face. Hint- change whatever you wash your face with or use a moisturizer.
Reply:It looks that way in the morning because you havent done anything to cause your face to be oily. It happens to me to and i really wish it stayed that way. I'm not sure why its like that at night, mine isnt mines the worst at night.
Reply:sounds like you're stripping your skin of its moisture, so it over-compensates during the day. Try using a light moisturizer in the morning.
Reply:are you washing with warm or cold water?

warm water opens your pores, while cold water closes your pores.
Reply:I totally get what your saying! In the morning I love my skin but after my face wash, toner and moisturizer my face doesnt look as good. But, personally I think that when your face is a little dirtier it looks a little better. Like hair, when your hair is a little dirty it looks better! It could be your face wash isnt the right type for your skin...but i dont know. I also think you may have dry skin and if your face wash is meant for dry skin it'll give you a lot of moisture, and if your face is really dry the moisturizer wears off and your skin is "flawless looking". I think your best bet is trying a new moisturizer!

Dry patches of skin on my face?

I have had dry patchy skin on my face since around the time I hit pubirty. I am 23 now and I have tried a lot of different products and at home remedies but nothing seems to work. And I try to drink plenty of water. I have combination skin and it's annoying when the products I use, either make my skin more dryer than it was before or more oily. I remember reading in a magazine that based on your skin tone you're prone to either having dry or oily skin or combination skin, but I don't think that's the case at all here. What product can I use on a daily bases that will help to balance out my skin?

*Also my skin tends to dry out more in the winter and get more oily in the summer.

Reply:sounds like rosacia (spelling?) Try Cliniques 3 step skin care system, it is great for sensitive skin. Ihave a friend who has rosacia and uses it daily. Good luck.
Reply:this works wonderfully well.

you wash your face with olay wash..( any kind will do) than wash it off with warm ( not hot) water.

than right afterwards put on Olay Complete all day moisturiser all over your face and on any other dry spots

do this before you go to bed and when you wake up and you will no longer have dry skin..this is what i use because my skin used to be very dry
Reply:Drying out in the winter and getting oilier in the summer is a completely normal phenomenon. It is due to the humidity level in the air and sweat.

Frequently flaky skin is very different from dry skin. Dry skin usually feels tight and isn't necessarily flaky.

Most commonly, the cause of flaky skin is a lack of proper exfoliation. Do not use a face brush or loofah....get an exfoliator that is made for the face and is safe enough to be used everyday.

You might also need to be checked out by a dermatologist. I have a mild form of eczema and have a topical solution that I use if the exfoliators and oil-free lotion can't keep it under control.

Hope this helps....Good Luck!!
Reply:Avon's Anew Alternative just came out with a product that would be perfect for you. It is called Photo-Reaiance Treatment. It targets patches of skin. They also have Avon Solutions Banishing cream which worked well for me.
Reply:Sunblock, everyday, even if you'll only be out for a few minutes. A lot of skin problems are caused by UV (Ultraviolet) rays.
Reply:i think there's a problem with your skin on your face. If you still have a pimples, that's the problem or if you don't have, maybe you only have a oily skin, because i also experience that, when its hot or warm my face goes very oily, but when its cold, it gets some dry at the sides of my nose or in some parts of my face. the remedy that i do is to always wash my face in morning, noontime, and in the evening and also try to apply in the morning and in the evening some astringent or facial cleanser for oily skin to reduce pimples and oilness in your face.

I hope it helps! okay! have a good time! :D

My skin tends to change color? And my face has spider veins, Is this normal and does it have a cure/solution?

It doesn't go green or anything. I just noticed that my skin is paler on certain days. My face is several shades darker than my arm and leg area and during night times it seems to be the same shade. It's just a little weird and I have a hard time choosing colors for my clothes :P ehehe. Also the spider veins in my face bother me, they're genetic and I just want a good concealer or a good herbal/medical solution for them, anybody have one?

You need to see a good dermatologist to get expert advice, I'm sure it can be cured.
Reply:Its normal. Nothing much can be done about it except wear more makeup.

Is it true that having oily skin will actually help prevent getting wrinkles as we age?

I was just told that it was wrong to use all those products that dry out my skin to "remove" blackheads...(they don't work anyway)... the woman told me that I needed to have them professionally taken out. But she also said that I was lucky because my skin lets the oils out.. that women with naturally dry skin tend to get more wrinkles as they age. Does any one else know about this?? Is this true?

Is it true that having oily skin will actually help prevent getting wrinkles as we age?
well, oil is naturally healthy and protective of our skin, only too much excess oil that causes skin flaws, in any case, oil should be on your face no matter what, and yea, that also means its probably healthy for wrinkles too, kinda like bread, if you toast it and bend it in half, there will be a crease, even a tear in it, but if you take a normal piece of bread and bend it, it can go back to normal. same thing with oil and skin, that's why dermatologists say not to wash or rub your face too much, or else it will rid the oil that your face needs to be healthy/
Reply:Personally, I'd want to have a good medium between oily skin and dry skin. Sounds reasonable, right?

I don't know if it prevents wrinkles but people with dry skin can get more wrinkles. BUT people with oily skin are more prone to getting acne. I guess there's a plus side and downside to everything.
Reply:Yes it's true.

The oil protects our skin. They say the best thing to wash your oily face with is soap %26amp; water. Also, not to use a moisturizer until you turn 30.

Not to include race or anything but You know the stereotype that black people are "greasy"? That's because they say that African American's have oily skin. Notice that we age at slower rates %26amp; beautifully.

Embrace that oily skin. If you want to dry something try use Mineral make up oil absorbers. They're natural minerals and they absorb the oil leaving your face looking with a matte finish.

Reply:I can tell you that my moms family has oily skin and my mother who is turning 55 this year doesn't look a day over 40. On the other hand my fathers side of the family has very dry skin and they all aged very quickly. I was lucky and got the oily skin...so I look forward to looking young for many years to come.

Skin tends to be very dry in aircon office.?

Our office aircon is very very strong and we have no way to bring it down. Because of this, our skin is very dry. What should we do?

Skin tends to be very dry in aircon office.?
My office aircon is very dry as well. I'd put moisturizing cream in my office and whenever after I wash my hands, I'll apply the moisturizer. When there's water, the moisturizer helps to keep the moisture in. Always make sure there's a cup of water at ur desk. It will not allow the office to be that dry.

Try moisturizer, my collegues use Nivea and I use Cetaphil. When I'm at home I'll use Emu oil...it's very very effective. Even helped me to lightened my skin colour.
Reply:Keep hand lotion on your desk and apply it several times a day.'
Reply:Try Cetaphil hand cream, serious stuff that really works, yet isn't greasy. Use the Cetaphil lotion or body cream for any other areas that need moisturizing. Especially nice if you have sensitive skin, very safe for that. Developed by a pharmaceutical company.

If your hands are still dry, try this at night before bed: put a thick layer of hand cream on and cover with cotton gloves. When you wake up in the morning, you're hands will be softer.
Reply:Hi,

Dry skin is just an imbalance of oils and water on your skin. According to my teacher who is a beautician for 20 over years, there are a few reasons for this...

1) If you do not use a good cleanser and bathing gel, your skin is unable to retain it's natural 5.5PH balance and this will be unable to produce this liquid that will moisturize your skin and keep it soft, smooth and supple...

2) Sometimes, if the molecules of the creams you are using is too big.. they are unable to go deep into the deeper layers of your skin and thus while your skin seems ok when you initially apply the cream, after a while it will look dry again...

3) Other than oil (moisturizer), it is important to hydrate your skin with water. Do you use a good quality toner as well for that?

Anyway, I have been using some great products which works using nanotechnology and are thus absorbed quickly into skin.. it is also very gentle and keep our skin's natural PH.. most important.. it is very fast effective.

perhaps you may want to use it as well?:P

My skin tends to be really firm and all my other friends have really soft skin, I've tried all sorts of lotion

and nothing is really making my skin feel really soft. Anybody out there got any good remedies for making skin super soft?

My skin tends to be really firm and all my other friends have really soft skin, I've tried all sorts of lotion
Firm skin is a sign of good muscle tone. Just use some Lubriderm lotion with oatmeal extract for your skin. I use it for massage and it works wonders. It softens the skin for up to 24 hours, is hypoallergenic and non-colloidal (non-pore clogging) and non greasy.
Reply:Try going to a dermatologist.
Reply:use ponds that helps get the one that suits your skin
Reply:apply olive oil on your face and then use a little bit of sugar, enough so that when u scrub the sugar on your face, it dissolves in your face. then rise it off first with water then soap.

Why is everyone so against skin-whitening creams or hostile to questions about them?

Petty counter arguments, more often that not, range from the subtle words of comfort "hey, beauty knows no skin colour" to vicious and ugly attacks like "so u wanna be like MICHAEL JACKSON?////"

Err, no.

No matter how accomodating we may be of other skin colours, the most predominant notion that comes to mind is that people with fairer skin tend to be naturally more attractive that those with dark skin. No matter what we do, people will always push the argument that dark skin is a good thing to have.

Also, having a fair skin lessens the likelihood of facing any form of racist slurs or hassles. A report on racism in Toronto by the Toronto Star asked people a few questions about their ethnicity and their encounter with racism. One Italian guy, who said that he did not face any kind of racism that it was "probably because I'm white." A Venezuelan immigrant agrees, and says that "what saved my *** was my white skin [...]."

There is more to say but I'm running out of space..

Why is everyone so against skin-whitening creams or hostile to questions about them?
Whether people like it or not, this is the way it is. Over the years I have had this conversation with women from a variety of ethnic groups. In the Asian countries they are taught to protect their skin from the sun so that will not get too dark. They are taught thta they will have a better life if they are fair skinned.

Here in southern California I see the Asian women driving and holding something in the other hand to block the sun.

Years ago I saw a movie that was made in Mexico. About half of the way through the movie, I noticed that the maid and the gardner were dark. The main characters were fair. I asked my friend (Mexican) about this and the answer was the same. The lighter the skin the better.

I am Black, and I am fair skinned. The worst treatment I have had was by other Blacks. They will say I think I am White, or if there is a discussion about discrimination some have said that I would not know about discrimination because of my color. I had a friend say "all you light brights have it made" because she did not have a boyfriend. She really thinks that nobody wanted her because she is dark. Last summer, on the same day, I had one coworker who is Black (dark) tell me I "need to put those white legs in the sun". That afternoon my Asian coworker told me to "get out of the sun, you are dark enough"! I too could go on and on.

Does color make a difference? Yes, it does. It took an article I read in Ebony magazine to make me see the truth that I did not want to believe. Their research showed that fairer skinned Blacks got the better jobs, were treated differently, etc. However, none of us have any control over genetics.

The skin whitening creams are used to help lighten dark spots.
Reply:So you think you can justify this this with testaments...? So what if it's "easier?" That doesn't make it any less racist. It's essentially saying that you have to be white in order to be beautiful and special.
Reply:I don't know about the arguments like Michael Jackson, but my concern would be how safe those cremes are. Many of them will irritate your skin a lot, some might make matters worse by making dark spots to appear. If you consider them for long-term use, I'd sujjest doing a thurough study on them firs how safe they are, and are they intended for.
Reply:I think the question is perfectly valid...

In Asian cultures, it's always been more attractive to have lighter skin. It wasn't because of a yearning to appear more Western, it's just that different societies have different perceptions of beauty that sometimes touch. It's not about wanting to look like Michael Jackson or Caucasian.

I can't speak for other cultures, though. And personally, I've always liked having a little bit of a tan.
Reply:I've read that this is very hard on the skin.
Reply:Well firstly, you should not change yourself to try to fit in or please others. And secondly, bleaching creams are not for bleaching the colour out of your entire face! Their purpose is to blend uneven pigmentation such as melasma.

And when you have darker skin and use large amounts of bleaching creams, especially in high concentrations, you run the risk of ended up with more problems than benefits.

I personally think you have some kind of inferiority complex and possibly some professional counselling would be beneficial. You are not the only one in the world that has to deal with some kind of prejudice, but you should never change for other people. Take care : )
